Question:

Where can my church rent a camel for our Christmas parade in Hamburg?

Answer:

Regarding your question about a live camel, I have a few suggestions.

First, Searcy has a live nativity with camels so I would suggest you contact them and ask where they get theirs.

Contact information is Lillie Cook; 501-268-2483

You might also contact the Little Rock Zoo and see if they know of any.
501-666-2406

Another source might be Wild Wilderness Drive Through Safari in Gentry.

Good luck

Question:

Do you know about the new Helena Second Saturdays events each month through November, 5-8 pm on Cherry Street in downtown Helena? It's a fantastic array of local musicians and local artists who work and perform along the street in front of shops that offer free wine and refreshments. It's a great effort to bring visitors to Helena. Tourism holds much promise as a way to bring folks to see historic Helena, learn about the culture and history, see Civil War sites, and enjoy the food and great Bed and Breakfasts there. Will Staley and local nonprofit THRIVE are organizing this along with Main Street and local tourism commission. willstaley@gmail.com Check it out! Thanks!

Answer:

Hi Carolyn - Thanks for the information about the Second Saturdays events.  I will pass it on to our travel writer Kim Williams who covers the Arkansas Delta region.  Our travel writers often write blogs (www.visitmyarkansas.com) and press releases (www.arkansasmediaroom.com) about the events happening around the state.  You might also encourage Will to make sure the event is posted on our Calendar of Events (http://arkindustryinsider.com/events-conferences/calendar_events.aspx).

Have a happy 4th of July weekend!

Question:

Myself and some friends are looking for a place our husbands can go duck hunting, but someone close to a campground. Can you suggest a few locations, and maybe a contact that can tell us anything necessary for them to go hunting?

Answer:

Nichole,

As far as hunting info, I would check out the Arkansas Game and Fish website. They can give you all the details as to licenses, where to hunt, rules and regulations, etc. There general email address is askAGFC@agfc.state.ar.us and their phone number is 800-364-4263 or 501-223-6300.

For camping, I would say that the Wildlife Management Areas are going to be your best bet (that is also where you can hunt). Depending on where you are in Arkansas, you can look up info on the Ozark-St. Francis National Forest Camping Page or the Ouachita National Forest Camping Page

Question:

My mom (75) has always wanted to come see the fall colors and the Passion Play. What else would you recommend? I am thinking Winery, Spa, Float Trip, Tours by Train, Boat or Bus. Great sites. Antiquing and shopping. What areas of Arkansas would be best to stay and any really nice scenic Spas?

Answer:

Eureka Springs (and the surrounding area) has many of the activities that you are looking for. You will find The New Great Passion Play (http://www.greatpassionplay.com/), along with several spas around town (check out our Spas page for a listing of spas in Eureka Springs http://www.arkansas.com/things-to-do/spas/). As for float trips, you have the White River, the Kings River and Beaver Lake. Also, it's not too far from the Buffalo River, the first National River. Eureka Springs' historic downtown area is also filled with lots of antique shops. You can find info for all of these places at http://www.arkansas.com/city-listings/city_detail.aspx?city=Eureka+Springs.

If you are going to be here during the fall season, you may want to check out the Arkansas Missouri Railroad. They offer train rides through the Boston Mountains most weekends. The scenery is amazing!

Arkansas Wine Country is another great destination. It is located in the Arkansas River Valley region. There are about 7 wineries throughout the region, and several of them offer tours and free wine tasting. You can find each of the wineries here http://www.arkansas.com/things-to-do/wineries-micro-breweries/.

where can i get the recipe for the sweetpotatoe/pumkin soup and the tomatoe/basil soup?

Answer:

Question:

hello. my fiance and I are looking at places to have our wedding in December 2011. He wants a waterfall and i want to stay close to home in Arkansas. are there any waterfalls here in Arkansas that would be good for our setting?

Answer:

Hi Lindsey,

So many of the waterfalls in Arkansas are way back in the national forests.  It all depends on how "accessible" it needs to be for your guests.  Also, please remember that during summer months, some of the waterfalls dry-up, if you are planning on getting married in the summer.

Here are some suggestions.  Garvan Woodland Gardens in Hot Springs has a "No Frills" waterfall wedding package. http://www.garvangardens.com/weddings/packages.asp.

In addition, you'll find a couple of other packages on www.ArkansasHotDeals.com

Information on some of Arkansas's better known waterfalls can be found here: http://www.arkansas.com/things-to-do/waterfalls/.
After you read about them, you'll see that a few of them are easily accessible, some are not.

Question:

We attended the endless feast event at Whitton Farms in the Fall of 2009 and had a wonderful time. Is the video available on DVD? If so, how can I get a copy? REnate Rosenthal-Campbell, Memphis TN

Answer:

Renate,

I agree, it was a wonderful event--great music, food and southern hospitality.  I'm not sure if it is available on DVD at this time because it is still being aired.  I would recommend looking on the Endless Feast website to see when the DVD's can be ordered.  If I find out anything, I will let you know.

Question:

Hi! My family and I want to rent a cabin next to a mountain river or creek. We want to eat catfish (at a restaurat or camp) and fish with our 2 1/2 year old son. I'm from the Carolina's and live in Dallas now, so I'm used to the Appl. Mountains. Where would you suggest going. We're on a budget this year. A cabin with a kitchen is needed so we can cook. Thanks for any help!

Answer:

I hope this helps.  These are a few options.  Remember, Arkansas has a lot of fabulous camping areas and many of our state parks have cabins as well.  You can search Arkansas.com for more information and be sure to go to www.arkansas.com/hotdeals for great vacation savings.  Let me know where you end up.  Have a great trip!

Question:

Are there any brand new festivals, exhibits, or events going on in Arkansas this summer or fall?

Answer:

We have our "What's New for 2010" listed in the Arkansas Media Room.  Here is the link:  http://www.arkansasmediaroom.com/media-kit/display.aspx?id=1310 .  You may want to look at the Arkansas Calendar of Events as well.  There is so much information it is hard to list in this text box.  Here are a few highlights:

Ozark Medieval Fortress - In the Ozark Mountain Region of Arkansas, a team of historians, architectural experts, and passionate and enthusiastic builders are constructing a genuine fortified castle, with 45-feet-high towers, 6-feet-wide walls, a drawbridge, moats, and stone walls surrounding an inner yard using the techniques, material, and rules of the 13th century. This Ozark Medieval Fortress is set to open in the spring of 2010. However, part of the allure will be watching 30 masons, carpenters, and stone carvers dressed in authentic garb work for 20 years to complete the castle. It will be an entertaining, educational, environmental and scientific attraction park. This socio-historic project is the brainchild of Michel Guyot, who launched a similar concept in Burgundy, France 10 years ago with great success. 1671 Ark. 14 W; Lead Hill; 870-436-7625; Ozarkmedievalfortress.com

Wakarusa Music & Camping Festiva
l – A long staple event in Kansas, organizers moved the festival to the Ozark Mountains in 2009. Over 10,000 people attended the inaugural Arkansas event, held at Mulberry Mountain near Ozark. www.wakarusa.com

World of the Pharaohs Exhibit
– Don’t miss the opportunity to view The World of the Pharaohs: Treasures of Egypt Revealed, on display at the Arkansas Arts Center in Little Rock through July 5, 2010. The Arts Center is one of only three locations in the U.S. where the exhibit will be open to the public. This amazing traveling showcase, presented in conjunction with the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, “explores the long-vanished world of ancient Egypt and the pyramids.” It includes more than 200 incredible objects including a colossus of Ramses II, Egyptian arts, amulets and jewelry, statues, stone objects and artifacts. 501-372-4000, 800-264-2787. http://pharaoh.arkarts.com/

Arkansas Delta Music Trail: Sounds from the Soil and Soul – Interpretive wayside signs are located throughout 15 counties of the Arkansas Delta. The signs give background information on legendary musicians, performers, and important musical sites. Signs are now located in Dyess, Tyronza, West Memphis, Brinkley, Marianna, Turkey Scratch, Helena-West Helena, and near McGehee. More signs will be placed throughout the Arkansas Delta in 2010. 870-972-2803. DeltaByways.com

Evans Children’s Adventure Garden – The new garden is located within Garvan Woodland Gardens, the 210-acre botanical gardens located on the shores of Lake Hamilton in Hot Springs. The Evans Children’s Adventure Garden is 1.5-acre garden providing a series of stone ledges leading the way to an ADA-accessible cave. More than 6.4 million pounds of stone were used in constructing the project, most of it transported from quarries in Arkansas. 550 Arkridge Rd. 501-262-9300. garvangardens.org
