Question:
what are some important tips for someone who has decided to travel to the delta...please get back to me asap
Answer:
Hi, Zakiya! My tips for someone who has decided to travel to the Arkansas Delta is to first have a plan. What do you want to see? If you're interested in the culture, make sure and visit some of the museums and state parks in the region. Interested in scenery? Definitely make plans to travel along the Great River Road National Scenic Byway and the Crowley's Ridge Parkway National Scenic Byway. Interested in the outdoors? Make sure and visit one or more of the Arkansas State Parks in the Arkansas Delta.
When traveling in the Arkansas Delta, definitely visit one of the Arkansas Welcome Centers in the area...there's one in West Memphis, Helena-West Helena and Lake Village.
Sample as much of the great food as possible! We have a variety of great restaurants with menus ranging from soul food to barbecue to catfish to steaks and seafood.
But definitely...if there's something specific you want to do or experience, make sure and email me at
DeltaTraveler@gmail.com!

Question:
What is your phone number to the restaurant?
Answer:
Felicia, the number is 870-630-1300.
Question:
Can you park overnight at the Interstate wayside rests or welcome centers in Arkansas?
Answer:
Dick, the answer is yes for the Arkansas Welcome Centers. I spoke to someone in the Public Affairs office of the Arkansas Highway Department and they said it is not illegal to park overnight, but it's not the primary use for the rest areas. In other words, if you were on your way somewhere, and needed to rest for a couple of hours, you wouldn't be ticketed or asked to leave the rest area.
Question:
Can I get a list of the unique caches? I'm new at this stuff and have only found the magnetic key holder and ziplock under a rock type. thanks Geo.
Answer:
Well, Geo, I'm not sure there's an actual list...but I've seen tons of very creative cache containers. I once found a cache inside a magnet the size of the end of your pinky finger. I thought someone had stolen the cache and all that remained was a magnet! But, sure enough, you could open the magnet and inside was a very tiny log!
I've seen leaves on a tree that was actually a cache container. There is a cache in south Arkansas that's inside an abandoned toilet. The point of the container is to blend in with the surroundings.
If you have some questions, feel free to email me at
DeltaTraveler@gmail.com. I'd be more than happy to help you, as a new cacher, along the way in any way I can.

Question:
Hi, I am thinking about re-locating to Arkansas from Illinois. I am very interested in the Hardy area. However, I am having difficulty locating possible employment opportunities around that area. I have been in the Web-Offset Printing business for over 30 years and would like to continue to be employed in that field. I have tried to search online for printing companies in general in that area, but I am not having much luck. I do have access to a small parcel of land in Hardy with which to build on. I am not opposed to up to a 50 mile one-way commute. Do you have any suggestions? Any help at all would be GREATLY appreciated. Thank You.
Answer:
You might try contacting the Spring River Area Chamber of Commerce for leads on printing companies in the area. The chamber's Website is
http://www.sracc.com/. Hardy is certainly a beautiful area and neat little town.

Question:
Are there many geocache locations in the Ponca and Boxley area. I'm heading there with the family next weekend and my son would love that.
Answer:
Kevin,
Kim is on vacation, but I can answer your question. There are at least 45 within a 20 mile radius of Ponca. There is a nice one at the Ponca Elk Education Center. I found that one with my kids and they loved it. And there are some that require hiking - some easy trail, some harder. But there's sure to be beautiful scenery in that area no matter which geocaches you go for. Here's a link to the geocaching page with results for the Ponca/Boxley area:
http://www.geocaching.com/seek/nearest.aspx?lat=36.0242433&lng=-93.3646264&dist=100
Have fun! You're headed to one of my favorite parts of the state.

Question:
A couple of friends and I, motorcyclists, will be traveling through the Forrest City area around the 6-7th of October toward Potosi, MO to a rally.
If there are any remarkable geological or historical sites that would keep us sort of on track north, we'd like to know.
thanks, tom
Answer:
There are some great Arkansas State Parks along the way (
Village Creek,
Lake Poinsett,
Crowley's Ridge)!
Crowley's Ridge State Park is located on the spot where Benjamin Crowley (namesake of Crowley's Ridge) settled with him family in 1821. After looking at a map, I would make one suggestion...instead of heading north Ark. 135 in
Paragould, why don't you think about continuing northeast on U.S. 49? You're still heading northward to Missouri...but you'll also drive through
Piggott, home of the
Hemingway-Pfeiffer Museum and Cultural Center. If at all possible, I encourage you and your buddies to stop at the museum. It's where Ernest Hemingway wrote part of
A Farewell to Arms...and it's really worth the extra miles. Nearby in St. Francis, you'll find
Chalk Bluff Battlefield Park, a Civil War site that's listed on the National Register of Historic Places. You could also stop by
Pumpkin Hollow, just a few miles northwest, and pick your own pumpkin! Although you might want to do that on the way BACK...a pumpkin might not be easy to carry on a motorcycle! But most importantly, I hope you and your friends enjoy your time in the Arkansas Delta!
Question:
We are looking for a cabin for about 3 months in the winter. Nothing fancy. Just close enough to a city to be able to shop for groceries, maybe a movie, etc. We are coming from Lincoln, NE so don't want to travel TOO far, yet far enough south to enjoy some warm weather.
Answer:
Pearl, I know you would enjoy spending time in Arkansas! Check out this
link on Arkansas.com for a listing of rentals throughout The Natural State! Let me know if you have other questions!
Question:
Where's the best place in northeast Arkansas to go take pictures of deer and turkey and even bear?
Answer:
Wow, Chris! How much time do you have? Many of the Arkansas State Parks in northeast Arkansas (Crowley's Ridge, Lake Frierson, Lake Poinsett and Village Creek) are great places to capture some wonderful wildlife photos. Some of the parks also offer wildlife photography tours throughout the year. You can check out their calendars of events at
www.ArkansasStateParks.com. The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission's Wildlife Management Areas, such as Big Lake WMA and Black River WMA, are also known for their wildlife photography opportunities. Private hunting clubs, such as Buck Hollow Ranch in Pocahontas, also offer wildlife tours geared toward photographers. You can also drive along Crowley's Ridge Parkway National Scenic Byway or the Great River Road National Scenic Byway and see wildlife along the way. Thanks for the question...and happy photographing!!
Question:
If one wanted to come to Pocahontas,AR or nearby for about a week to explore, what place would you suggest staying? Would there be a weekly rate? Thanks
Answer:
Billie, there is a list of lodging options on the Pocahontas city listing on Arkansas.com. In addition to hotels in the town, there are also several lodges you could choose from. As far as weekly rates, you could contact the hotel or lodge directly and they will be able to give you all the info you need.
Question:
Why is Randolph County known as the “County of Firsts?”
Answer:
That's a great question! Randolph County was officially established in 1835, the year before Arkansas became a state. However, settlers established the area in the early 1800s. The first post office was opened in 1817, followed by the first land office in 1820 and the first brick courthouse in 1822. The area continued to grow and became home to Arkansas’s first school, the first ferry, the first grist mill and the first circus performance. Randolph County is also the only county in Arkansas that contains five navigable rivers – the Eleven Point, Black, Current, Spring and Fourche.
Question:
Please explain Crowley's Ridge.
Answer:
I refer to Crowley's Ridge a lot in my blogs and releases because it's such a part of the Arkansas Delta! Crowley’s Ridge is a geological formation, approximately 200 miles long, which runs along the northern section of the Arkansas Delta, from north of Piggott to Helena-West Helena. The ridge is composed primarily of loess soil. The ridge ranges in height from 200 feet to nearly 550 feet and provides quite a visual contrast to the flatlands of the Arkansas Delta.
